Re: hooks. Being a National Hispanic Scholar and therefore being categorized as hispanic for demographic purposes, requires only 1/4 hispanic heritage. At our high school, these students are affluent, several generations removed - for example - don't speak any Spanish, college educated parents- often ivy educated. Saddens me that these types of programs aren't benefiting, who I think, are the intended students. Parents are going to take advantage of whatever is available, but I wish colleges would get called out on this.

My DS got into one of his top choices yesterday. A major relief for us, as he hears from 4 more schools today and was feeling very nervous about that!

And when I say middle 50 - I mean right at the top of the middle 50, like the PP. The hooked kids at DD's school seem to be doing fine. It's the unhooked kids, even at those at the top, who are not getting I to the high match/low reach type schools. It's clear to me now, it really is all about those hooks, baby.

Any JMU acceptances today? My son just got his and we are over the moon!

Glad my kids went to schools that do not have Naviance. Not sure this is helpful.

Right. I think the problem is that Naviance data is retrospective while admit rates keep going lower every year at the most elite schools. And really, once you get admit rates below 15-20% it's no longer about being a qualified applicant; it's about subjective factors like "fit", diversity and just sheer luck. There's a reason people are starting to call applications to Ivies and such "the lottery."

DS2, with better GPA, SATs and a few harder classes than his older brother (neither outstanding in an particular area) was just wait listed and rejected at 2 schools where DS1 was accepted 3 years ago. So I'm less in love with Naviance for sure.
