Not trying to derail but curious, if you go with say, a pixie, how often do you need to be at the hairstylist? And is it full price every time or a bit less for maintenance?

You have to have the right kind of hair to pull off long hair. Fine, stringy, thinning hair that is long looks horrible on anyone, young girls/ children included. And especially older women. I actually think it's easier to pull off a styled short hair look. Only downside is that it requires a lot of visits to the salon.

Yes, it does depend on the person and the style.
Short hair makes me look attractive while long hair makes me look mousy. I am short, very thin, with decent bone structure and look very stylish with a pixie, but just look bland and childish with longer hair.
Quite honestly I feel 100 times prettier and more attractive with short hair. I do feel more feminine, maybe because I feel sexier...
I get compliments almost daily from both women and men (great ego boost!). My husband loves it!

I love my short hair and DH prefers me with short hair.

I have a very stylish, feminine and young cut. I know that many different shorter cuts can be unflattering on me. I also have very nice low lights and soft bangs.

I am complimented all the time.

I hate short hair. When my mom was in her 50s she grew it out to shoulder length and the comments she received were overwhelming. No one had ever commented on her hair before and then she had daily comments on how great/young/healthy her hair looked.

Agree that it depends on the individual.

I have very short hair - like Emma Watson's 'do when she went short - and, while I didn't get to this point willingly (chemo, bald from 29-30 yo, previously thick/blond hair grew back s-l-o-w-l-y and was no longer thick or blond) it actually suits me much better than my long hair did. And, anyway, I'm just happy to have hair!

My hair length has varied from chin length at shortest, to the middle of my back. Honestly, I wish I had the guts to go really short. In the dead of July when it's 95 degrees and 98% humidity, I envy women with the courage to go short, and against conventions of beauty.

I think short hair looks amazing on confident women with good bone structure. I have a friend that chopped it all off, and she said she never received more attention from men.

Short-haired woman here--it's so dependent on the person and what flatters them and fits with their style. I find that long hair tends to drag my face down and make me look more tired, while short hair brings out my eyes, which are my best feature, emphasizes my cheekbones, and makes me look more awake. I get far more compliments on my hair when it's a pixie or a crop than when it's long.

I also know lots of Western and Central European women with short hair, including many chic young women.

Random: my dad much prefers short hair on women.
