It is insane. It should be documented. People should know about how stressful it is for everyone involved. It should be reported on. This is important.

I have participated in lotteries in the past pulling names for the lottery. There has been news coverage. I was there when a child was present who had their name drawn 1st! The child and family was told - congratulations you are 1st on the waitlist. If anyone does not come back you have the spot. The child did not get a spot that year, or the next. I know b/c the child was there with his father again at the lottery the following year.

I was there when a 4YO waited around to hear her name called - congratulations you are # 288 on the waitlist.

Please do not do this to yourself or your children. It is depressing. If you luck out you will find out soon enough.

I went to the lottery of a very in-demand school last year. It was very hard (no way did I bring my kid), and literally NO ONE in the room got in. BUT... I recently was talking to another 2 parents at that school as we all sat at a school presentation, figured out we were all in the room last year getting more and more depressed... but we all got in off the waitlist. Can't really explain it but if we hadn't gotten in, I would have gone again this year. I'm not a masochist, but somehow it feels important to be in the room if you really want it that badly. To me anyway.

This is my first year playing the lottery, but I can't imagine going to one, let alone bringing a child. I can wait the 3 extra days for the postcard to arrive--going doesn't change the result.

Pretty annoying post. If you know and it is not a secret then just post the information. If you know and it is a secret then why mention it at all? I hated kids who did stuff like this when I was growing up: "I know something you don't know but I can't tell you"

So for those who felt it was an urgent question to get an answer to, it would have been better if I'd said nothing and they still didn't know that yes, actually, they should call the school because a decision had been made? I'm not applying so I'm not going to make the effort, but even if you're annoyed by having it confirmed that the decision was made, I'm sure there are others who are less pissy than you and more resourceful who will use the info to get the details and they can post it.

If I'd really cared about applying to CM, I would want to know that I should call tomorrow so I could figure out if the location worked for me. But apparently you would rather just not know that you even should call. Ok.....
