I'm still reading! I didn't think it was necessary to get involved in the discussion of moving out-of-bounds. All the rest, I am grateful for. Thanks for the information.

PS - I'm a guy.

Has OP even been back to this thread since the first posts? Not sure he/she is even still reading...

I own a condo and have been living IB for one of Wotp elementary schools. We just bought another condo 3 blocks away and are moving there, but it's IB for another school. We would like to keep him in his old school even though the new school is just as good if not better.

Talk to the principal of your current school, it is a principal discretion issue.

I presume the poster wanted to hear about experiences that others might have had, prior to talking to their own principal. Just a thought!

PP, here, my ex talked to the secretary, even though I asked him to talk to principal. The secretary said that our boy (going to 2nd grade) should be able to continue in his old school, but I'd like to hear it from the principal later tonight.
Yes, I've yet to know anybody who was able to keep their old school.I really thought it's just a rumor that it's at principal's discretion.
The person who told that they were going to move, but keep their kid at the old school, is still living in our building. I figured they wanted to move but were unable to keep their child's spot, so they stayed.

Yes, this happened a while ago at Murch.

8:46 is correct that you provide proof of residency every year, but just because your living situation changes does nt mean a principal will kick out a kid who attended as an in boundary student the previous year. In fact, I would venture to say that no child has been kicked out of a school that they attended in boundary after moving out of boundary, for that reason alone. Unless an OOB student (provided they were accepted initially as an IB student of course) is consistently truant or violently acting out, no principal is going to send that kid away. DCPS doesn't always act in the best interests of kids, but they have so many that are constantly bounced around from house to house or even homeless shelters that this would cause extreme problems with children and families who need to maintain some semblance of stability.
