I'm guessing that Montgomery County schools with 9/10 on great schools, and a minority of white students, have a large proportion of Asian students. Asians -- they're not white, but they're not non-white either...

I hate to engage, but my non-white, non-Asian kids attend Viers Mill ES, which has a 9/10 rating (like I care). It's 15% white, 9% Asian, so... guess again.

Seriously though, MS in general is the weak point for every school system. The ES are almost all very strong, and two of the high schools in silver spring are very strong. The others aren't as highly regarded as the top schools but are still on par with most of the outer burb schools, and at the very least are better than 95% of the schools in the country.

I disagree PP. The poster is talking school quality. Either the quality of the school is high or low, regardless of race. If there is a high quality school that isn't, as you say, not the Poster before you, "white" or "affluent," I believe that school would be recognized as such.

Okay, now tell me where are the diverse middle and high schools with 9 and 10's in Montgomery County? There are plenty at the elementary level, but not at the middle and high school levels.

We left MoCo because of the schools and taxes. I am in Fairfax. But there is a hell of a lot of diversity all over the DC area. Even in Potomac there must be. I looked up the SDAT (property tax/owner listings) at that address in Potomac where that lady ran over her kid a few months ago, and I don't recall a single white person name on the whole street. My AA ex-BF is from Potomac too. Surely nobody has to give up diversity in exchange for a wonderful school in the DC area. Just pick the wonderful school.

SSIMS is a 7/10 greatschools. It's a non magnet IB program. Everyone we know is happy there.

But like PP said - using dcum or greatschools as fact rather than a point of view, will not lead to good decision making
