I was never fed and paid no share of the premium to cover myself. My husband always paid something for himself. It was cheaper also to buy self +1 at my job than to pay for self with the feds. However, we always purchased some kind of health coverage for himself because he needs to be covered the last five years before retirement.

+1 I can't tell you how many people think we get free pensions, SS and health insurance...

When they talk about raising the pension rates that we pay in, I would like an opt out so that I can do my own investing.
