Subject: How old were you when graduating from HS.?
I was 17 1/2..If I had to do it over, I would have waited a year to go to college. I think I was too young to go away to college. I felt very young and immature.

Graduated in June, turned 18 in July. That was very typical - there were very few summer birthday kids who graduated at 18 about to turn 19. Now it seems like it's the opposite.

I was also 17. I was 4 when I started kindergarten and turned 5 four days before the required date.
So I was only 21 when I finished undergraduate. Other than waiting longer than all of my friends to turn 21, I have always been happy to be the "baby."

I was 4 when I started K. I hated being the youngest. I struggled a lot until around 8th grade. I graduated a year early at 16.
Both of my redshirted boys will be graduating at 18 years old.
I see no issues with them being 18 and graduating.

A few of my classmates at MIT were 16. I knew none that were more than 17 when they started. The younger students were in accelerated programs.

I also think it is about lazy parenting, and failure to step in and teach basic social behaviors - it is "easier" for lazy parents to medicate and/or ignore. But I'm not here to start an uproar.

I work in a preschool, so I've been involved in lots of conversations about the decision to redshirt a child. I have never heard sports scholarships come up as an argument either way.
I'm not sure what the medication comment is about at all, or how it's relevant to this conversation.

I have a late August birthday so was just 5 in K and graduated from HS at 17. I was on the young side of my class, but definitely not the youngest. Now, my June DS is among the youngest in his high school class!

17 and 3 months. Didn't skip a grade but was the youngest in my HS class. Went to Harvard and wasn't the youngest there. This was in the late 80s.
