I haven't introduced myself to our new neighbors yet, so really didn't want our first interaction to be me complaining about their trash cans.
Wow , people like you irritate the pussyfooting me.
You complain, make make pointed yet unnecessary and irrelevant commentary about them being renters ask how you can report them to get them in trouble and then when people suggest you just do the mature grown-up thing of approaching them nicely and asking them because maybe they don't know what the rules are then all of a sudden oh I wasn't trying to get them in trouble I'm just a mom and I want to make sure the whole world a safer Goldilocks and the three bears.
In other words you want to complain make other people look bad and have no responsibility to do anything .
Pound sand.
Yeah. She should probably try putting them back where they belong herself, too.

Did you even read OP's post? She said she has moved them off the sidewalk onto their patio, and they've moved them back onto the sidewalk.

My guess is the renters are thinking - hey we don't want our stinky trash can on our patio, so we will leave it out here. Maybe they don't use that particular sidewalk.
Is it actually blocking the sidewalk? If so, I'd leave a note to kindly ask them to move it. You can share with them the link to the counties website that says they need to remove their cans from the curb within 24 hours (link below):

Anonymous wrote:I live in a townhouse community in Ballston, so there are a lot of renters in the neighborhood. Recently, new renters moved into two of the units beside ours and both have a habit of leaving their trash bins on the sidewalk all week long. They rolled them out for trash pickup 3+ weeks ago, and they have remained out on the public sidewalk ever since. Because it obstructs our ability to walk on the sidewalk, I've pushed the trash cans back onto their patios a couple of times only to find that they move them back onto the sidewalk immediately.
Is there anyone within Arlington County that governs this sort of thing or do I personally have to go over there and ask them to move their trash cans back in? I seem to remember you are only allowed to leave your trash cans out for the 24 hours around your pickup day, but I can't find it on the website anymore, and now I have no idea who to call.
