plus with the temps & roads not being treated, makes driving treacherous......almost got in 2 accidents driving four miles, and my neighbor took 90 mins to go 15 miles....

I think what happened is I looked outside at 5 am, checking for a delay, and there was no snow. It started snowing after and too late for them to call a delay although the forecast was exactly right. There were several accidents on East West Highway, and traffic was at a standstill around 7:30. I also saw one school bus completely stuck. I have little doubt that their hesitancy to call for a delay today was compounded by the silly December cancellation and delays. Then again, no local school districts had delays today. I suspect that many schools will end up with a de facto 30-60 minute delay because of school buses being late.

MoCo doesn't care about MSAs this year. I'm an MCPS ES teacher and had taken off today for a couple of doctor's appointments. Already got the call that my sub cancelled this morning, and my principal called to see if I could come in anyway because at 8:30, half the staff either hasn't shown up or called to say they would not be in by the time school starts.

Sitting in the doctor's office now, and yeah, roads and conditions were far worse than what MCPS usually tolerates for on-time openings. Surprised there wasn't a delay.

Can you post the link to show us all the bus accidents all over the county? I watched the news and heard nothing.

I'm curious - those of you that are getting stuck, or finding roads "impassable" -- how much snow is there? Even at 2", you should be able to drive over it.

We drove from Gaithersburg to Bethesda in a minivan. Highway and side streets. I did not see one accident or 180 spin outs. It took us 8min more than a normal rush hour morning. This is 1" of snow. It is a non issue. Will some busses or teachers be a little late. Yes, but not enough to delay school again. You helicopter mommies are teaching your kids to hide in a fetal position at every little thing.

School bus accidents all over the county. Streets were not treated and many cars could not go uphill, which caused numerous delays. Many buses did not arrive. It is a matter of safety.

Maryland is not made up of former new englanders. There are people from all over the world who don't know how to drive in snow and think they can. We also have a climate of our job is so important we have to get to work no matter what. Yes a delay would have been helpful. I have heard reports of several school bus accidents, really bad traffic, and teachers who have turned around to go home, for their own safety, to try again later. Which means your child really won't be learning much because the school will be trying to find coverage for all the classes missing a teacher, not to mention subs who decided not to pick up jobs because they didn't have to. So adjust to being in Maryland or go back to New England where people know how to drive, and there are never any weather related accidents.

Usually northern MCPS has more snow than Bethesda, not this time. Everyone has 2 inches, everyone goes to school. MCPS closed before when they had 5 inches in the north and a dusting in Bethesda, which makes sense.

Plus, they've run out of snow days and extending costs money.

Be careful out there.
