I'm always beating this same drum, but there are a lot of (I think) very cool wood-soled shoes out there. I can't stand flexible soles - they give me awful tendonitis - and I live in Svens, Swedish Hasbeens, No.6, and the ilk. Expensive, but I love them.

I like the whisky. Or get the plain black without the "patent". I love my Dansko. I'm a teacher and I wear them every day. I don't care if that's giving up. I'm comfortable. Weekends are for my fun shoes.

Er, ok. I prefer the whiskey Danskos to the patent ones. I used to have a pair of the patent ones, a gazillion years ago, and I got more tired of them than I have of the non-patent ones.

Nowadays I have a pair of the plain black ones that I wear for walking the dog. Hands down the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

If you get the patent leather version, just don't wear them with a dress. Men will stare at your shoes and see straight up your skirt.

Yes, the nuns really told us this.

You sound like a kind and considerate person.

Yes, exactly. I need something with more support than that.

People run marathons in Vibrams, but you can't wear a pair of ballet slippers to work?

How flat are your feet?

They are pretty flat. I wear orthotics. Not unusual for people in their 50s.

Ballet flats provide zero support.

Mocs from Land's End are slightly less clunky than Danskos and have great support.

I love Fly London shoes! They are extremely fashionable right now - just look at all the chunky shoes on style blogs like The Sartorialist.

Are you all really DCUMs? I have never seen anyone with shoes like these in NWDC.

Are you kidding? I live in CCDC, have been on DCUM since 2003, and Danskos are all over the place in my general area.

I'm 48 and I guess I'll agree with a few of the PPs who assert that Dansko = "given up." In my case, I have indeed "given up" caring whether I dress in a way that makes men want to bang me at first sight. And let's be honest, that's what PPs who sneer that a woman has 'given up' actually mean when they say "she's given up" (because she wears clogs.). self-respect =/= hot 'n sexy.

It's Ok to age with grace and acceptance. I promise.

+1

I'm 53 and my feet hurt when I wear heels or uncomfortable shoes. If giving up = being able to walk for more than a few blocks, I'll take it.
