Vasectomy!

I'm in the same boat, OP. Can't use anything hormonal, and my periods are already heavy so don't want to risk even heavier bleeding with IUD. DH doesn't want a vasectomy.
I hate condoms but we use them every single time.
Blah.

We chart and it takes a while to learn but has been great for us.

We've used the pullout successfully for years. I did however get pregnant on para guard.

Diaphragm is wayyyy to risky for me, even if I assumed I was using it perfectly - 6% chance of pregnancy is just too high. You need to weigh that big risk against your squeamishness about getting an IUD. IUD is really no big deal for the incredible convenience and effectiveness it offers.

Haven't read the responses but check the stats on effectiveness. I got pregnant using one.

Hmm. I used it on and off for 25 years and never had a problem. The first time I tried to get pregnant at 37, I counted 14 days and bingo, I was an elderly gravida. Same happened with second child at 41 - so I'm a big proponent, especially now that all my female relatives have had breast cancer - I'm glad I didn't take the pill, especially when the estrogen levels were higher when it first came out.

The diaphragm is really not the best choice for anyone. Typical use failure rate is pretty high, as others have set. You would be so much better off with the paraguard, honestly.

Ditto. The diaphragm is how I became pregnant with my first child, which resulted in a more permanent relationship with my then fiancé than perhaps was wise. Now I am a single mom. Can't say I really recommend diaphragms. Look up the "effective" or "practical use" rate -- it's something like 80%. Wish my OB-GYN had told me that when I asked for it!

Same poster here...I'd like to add that I used the Today Sponge until one broke apart while inserted.

For me the truly bad part about the diaphragm is lack of spontaneity. It takes a little planning/time.
