I liked all of this episode, except the pig part. I laughed and laughed. Mary and a guy practically breathless to jump in a pig sty to save pigs??? It just was not believable, that it made it funny.

Can someone please explain what Mary's pig guy and her former suitor are doing at Downton? I was sick last week and not really paying attention to that story line.

Wait, why are you thinking that's less likely? That's really a good idea! It makes an honest woman out of Edith and allows her to have the baby.

So they get married quickly--you know, a sexless marriage--and all is GREAT, and of course, her beau then shows up when it's too late with some verifiable story that he'd been inprisoned and couldn't send word to her. There's the baby and he does the math and realizes it's his, and….and…well something happens then….

I don't think Thomas is interested in redeeming himself. Maybe he will black mail the rapist, that is more his speed.

If Mary & Lord Gilliam? became involved, I would think Anna could tell Mary how much she dislikes the Lord's valet and the hint would be taken. The Lord doesn't like him, he could hire Downton Abby's younger butler (that flirts with the maid) or the older one that they just brought back. Heck, Bates could even do it and then could all four of them could ride of into the sunet together.


Yes. This needs to happen so that poor old Molesley can have a proper job.

Last week I thought they were dropping hints that Edith might marry Tom (because of her pregnancy). When he was talking about not belonging at Downton, he said something like "after all, I couldn't possibly find another Earl's daughter to marry."

Now, I'm thinking that that's less likely.

Love the idea about Gregson being a German spy! But, couldn't he turn out to be a double-agent, so that Edith could be happy . . . ?

Oh, yeah, last year before the season started, I wanted my brother to watch it because he looks like Matthew and I wanted him to cut his hair like Matthew.

I googled and found out Matthew died! This is before the darn season opened! There was no way to avoid reading it because the tabloids were screaming it as headlines.

I was SOOOO mad!! I *never* google Downton.

I was looking up a Rudyard Kipling poem yesterday about death on the plains of Afghan to use for a eulogy. The poetry reminded me of Bates and how steely he must have been as a soldier serving with Lord Grantham. He is one menacing dude, and I would put nothing past him. That is why I love him too.

so let's say Thomas covers for Bates, then Bates is in his debt (under his thumb). I was thinking this, but it won't work--Bates could just kill Thomas; he won't be put under anyone's thumb.

But Thomas could figure it all out, and get rid of Bates that way.
