For Moms that do leave, don't tell your child about it later. My Mom went on a 2 week trip when I was 9 months old. She mentioned it decades later. For some reason it bothers me. I wish she hadn't told me. I wouldn't have known if she hadn't told me.

No, I wouldn't.

I have left an 11 month old for 16 days for work to Malaysia. It was sad, but unavoidable----probably would have beaten myself up more though if it was for vacation. One note, don't count on your child still wanting to breastfeed when you return---mine didn't, even though I pumped the ENTIRE time.

I was thrilled to take a 4-day trip when my DD was 10 months. I didn't feel guilty at all, but can't imagine taking much longer than that.

OP here - seriously thanks for the feedback. My friends's kids are older so I think they forgot what it's like to have young ones. But it's good to hear from others that I'm not crazy for thinking I won't be able to make the trip. All I hear from friends is that it'll be fun and that I deserve a break. But it doesn't seem like a very relaxing break if I stressed the entire time. I've already spent a good bit of time in Thsiland/ SE Asia do I'd really just be going to be with friends. And at this point in my life I'd rather visit the elephant camps in northern Thailand with my daughters instead of a dozen friends in their 40s. . It's a different kind of fun...with a lot less alcohol.

I've done it three times for work, but would not do it that long for vacation.
