DC is a city. You don't need a car to navigate it with your student(s).

But if a large part (majority?) of your staff and teachers are coming from the 'burbs, and when only 25% of your students attend their in-boundary neighborhood schools, city or no city - it doesn't make sense to risk safety to open.

Alexandria closed, I wonder what else DC needs to make a decision?

Agreed, unlike the other calls this one seems pretty easy to make. Regardless of what they call, can't imagine many staff or students will be at school tomorrow. I think metro is running on reduced schedule too.

According to Washington Post now, "Wind chills Wed AM from -5 to -15 in DC, and subzero wind chills continuing for balance of day." Considering they closed last time for cold but no snow it will be interesting how DCPS calls this one, seems kinda crazy to open from my view of my street. Even though neighbors have shoveled snow all day the sidewalks and street are covered in snow.

I live near Mass Ave downtown, the roads are mess. Haven't seen a plow since 2pm this afternoon.

I hate going to bed with the idea I need to get up at 6.20 to make lunch for my kids.

Why not just make lunch anyway and then give it to them tomorrow at home if need be? Or let them take it to school the day after?

How are you sleeping til 6:20 with kids anyway?

Not PP, but my kids would sleep until 8 if they could. I have to drag them out of bed.

+1 my kid slept until 945 this morning and went to bed normal time last night.

Yep. My kid went to bed early last night and squawked when we woke him up at 9. He's always been a late sleeper, which is awesome on days off, but sucks on school days.

Lucky parents! I get my kids up at 6am-6:15 for a 7:11 bus. They are at school before 8, and must be in home room before 8:30.

Same. I get up at 7:30 and go in their rooms at 7:45 to get them up on regular school mornings.

I live in NE and saw a plow on my street (we live on the same block as a school) but its still snowing. There will at least be a two hour delay. My FIL just moved in with us from Birmingham and drops off the kids. Hes been asking repeatedly about the schools and is surprised they havent closed already Of course he thinks any snow is too much...
