I've always wondered about North China but never tried it.

Need to go out to Rockville. Try A&Js. YUM.

A&J's is terrible! A bit too authentic if you ask me. Meiwah is great.

OMG....No offense, but if you prefer Meiwah to A&Js then you are definitely not looking for the "best Chinese." Real chinese food does not look like what is at Meiwah. No, you will not find "General Tso's Chicken" or "Orange Chicken" at A&Js. But then again, you probably wouldn't find it in China either.

Trust me, I don't want something I would get in China! That's why I hate A&J's. Americanized Chinese is what I like, and what I assume our NYC transplant had delivered in on the upper east or west side. To each her own. All good.

Let me guess - you have never been to China?

I agree to each their own, but some people don't know what the fuck they are talking about, only want deep fried crap covered in a sugary sauce, and should probably stfu when it comes to discussions about good food,

Actually, you don't agree to "each their own", based on the rest of your sentence. There is nothing more boring and useless than a self-appointed "food expert". Nobody cares that you went to China. Nobody cares that you hate Chinese American food. Nobody cares about you at all. You bring nothing worthwhile to this discussion. You should stfu. Now back to the OP's question: the best Chinese restaurants in Bethesda/Chevy Chase in my opinion are Foong Lin and North China.

We used to love Foong Lin but ever since it closed and then moved, we have not been nearly as impressed. The last time we did takeout it was downright awful -- salty and mushy and nasty. We swore never to do takeout there again. We'll give it one last shot as an eat-in place at some point, but if it disappoints again, we won't go back. Very sad because the old place was a five-minute walk from our house and I used to live on their wonton soup whenever I had a cold.

If you're willing to travel and in the mood for something a little different (not just wonton soup and General Tsao's chicken, which I love), try Bob's Noodle 66 in Rockville. Much of the menu is devoted to things I wouldn't eat, like duck blood, but the dishes that are more amenable to an American palate are excellent. Try the beef with leeks or the beef with sa cha noodles. Both are addictive.

Then your palate is crap. Fix your palate.

Oh, we are SO impressed with your world-class, superior, super-duper palate!!

Another vote for Fushing Café in Bethesda- right near Montgomery Mall.
