+1! And I think your husband is being a little unreasonable.

I like it. It sounds nice and it's a lovely gesture. Plus who cares about middle names anyway, no one knows them outside of family.

I like using the mom's maiden name as a middle name, and Smith sounds just fine to me.

Besides, middle names don't matter to anyone but family anyway. We all obsess about them when we're pregnant, but really, they're just not a big deal. Do what makes you happy!

I didn't read the whole thread, but I'd say go for it. Both my kids have my maiden name as their middle names, and I love it.

That said, I kind of like the name Smith as a first name…reminds me of the guy from SATC, as the first PP pointed out. So, if I were in your shoes, I'd consider that too.

GL and congrats!!!

Your husband got his junior, so he should back you on this. Smith is a fine middle name.

I was a poster who said go for it. I think your DH wants a middle name that is a proper first name. What's funny is I think Smith works well as a first name, but when you put it in the middle has a last name feel. DH is within his rights to just not like last-names-as-middle-names, but maybe then you can compromise and use a first name from your side. If it were me I'd try to convince him to use Smith
Good luck!

My maiden name is Smith too. Both of my sons have Smith as their middle name.

No one cares about middle names--name him whatever makes you happy.

+1. Smith is fine for a middle name and this is a common practice. Good luck

I know a little boy with smith as his first name. Also, my kids have my maiden name as their middle name.

People will assume its part of his last name if he tells them verbally.

If he's a Junior, won't he have his father's middle name?

Please keep up. OP's first son is a junior. She is talking about naming her second son.

Had one too many glasses of wine and are getting bitchy I see...
