Thank god you don't work with patients. Nurses typically aren't very good with health things. A large percentage are overweight and smoke, so your attitude doesn't really surprise me.


I do work with patients but not face to face.
I don't believe in taking medication if not necessary.
I am not overweight, nor do I smoke.

You realize they don't cover all the strains

I just got over the flu and I had the damn shot.


Of course. And I realize you can still get it even if you get a vaccine. But it certainly reduces your risk. Like wearing a seatbelt. You can still get really injured or killed in a car accident, but it really decreases your risk of that happening.

There is not a nurse or doctor on the planet who will hold a 17 year old down for a flu shot. She can provide medical consent for surgery, let alone this.

Plus, I have never given my kids a flu shot. No way. They are teens now.

Only about 40% of the population gets the flu shot and in the 18-50 yr old range it's more like 30%. Just because they recommend that everyone does it, doesn't mean that actually happens so I'm not seeing the big deal here. It's not the same as turning down a polio vaccine.
