I think the responses to this questions are funny, and don't understand why this hasn't been suggested because it's the easiest answer. If one's name is Michael, ppl call him Mike; Richard (these days), ppl call him Rich; Damielle - Dani; Kimberly - Kim; Diana - Di; Patricia - Patti.

My given name is Caroline, but my mom has always called me Carol. I prefer Carol because it is less stuffy, and it means song. I know Caroline is said to mean lady like, but I like to think it means song like also: Melodious one. Caroline is traditional, but I'm an informal type even though I did go to finishing school and have a graduate degree. So, there's an easy answer for a nickname for my own name.

I love the name "Caroline" and it shortens naturally to "Cara," which is Spanish for "dear." People will shorten the name--don't hate them. A wonderful girl named Harriet was called "Hallie" by many people (because I think they didn't like the name "Harriet" for a little girl) until the girl herself told people, politely, that she preferred "Harriet."
Deep breath, and wait until Caroline is old enough to speak for herself. If she doesn't, then...maybe she likes the nicknames. Think of what we call our children and our loved ones: sweetie, honey, sweetie pie, sugar pea, ladybug, baby bear...people just DO it. We have ridiculous ones in our household that I used until my daughter asked me to stop. Good luck, OP!

I know seven Carolines and none of them go by nicknames.

If you like Caroline, just keep saying Caroline. You can't fully control what other people call her, because she is her own person now.

Our little one, whose name starts with the letter G, used to be called "Baby G" then just "Little G" then "GG" sometimes also G-I-G and so on. But mostly folks at this point--age 3--people call her by her given first name, just as I do.

When I'm not calling her by her sister's or my sisters' names, that is.

Most of the Carolines I know use the full name. It's a really popular name for little girls now, probably because it's lovely.

I really love the name Caroline so I would use the full name.

If I wanted to shorten it--I might go with 'Cara'. I'm not a fan of 'cece (pizza), caro (syrup) or carrie (horror movie).

My sister goes by 'Beth' from Elizabeth, but my best friend has only been referred to as "Elizabeth'. It is possible to never use a nickname.

Caroline is a great name and needs no nickname IMO but I like Callie...

I've thought of using the name Caroline, and would use Caro for a nickname (if I used a nickname).

My cousin's name is Caroline and goes by Carrie. My bosses name is Caroline and she goes by...Caroline.

I think you can definitely go with just Caroline. It's such a beautiful name on its own, and as others have said, if you use it consistently, other people will follow your lead.

As for nicknames, I like Caro, Caddie, and Callie.

Cricket is one of my favorite nicknames of all time, and while neither of the Crickets I know is named Caroline, it could just as easily be used for Caroline as anything else. I also know a Caroline called Cappy.
