There is no walkable grocery store in Del Ray. Lots of young families, though, and not a difficult commute but public transportation relies on the bus system. The "new" metro in Potomac Yards won't exactly serve Del Ray when/if it ever happens. I think Old Town might suit you better with your budget because you can actually get a place near the metro and near grocery stores, if that's important.
Cameron Station is a newer community with less character and charm but does have a few amenities, is somewhat close to the metro, easier commute for dh, and also has, I think, a preschool in the community that you could easily walk to. The nearby park is nice as is the farmer's market in the warmer months.
This is not true. The Giant on Monroe Avenue is smack in the middle of the neighborhood. It's not the biggest or fanciest grocery store, but it's certainly serviceable (and walkable).
And most of what's considered Del Ray is within a 15-minute walk of the Braddock Road metro. It's true that if you live on the northern end of the neighborhood, it's more bus dependent.

Again people, read before you post. The OP doesn't care about schools.
Bad idea
