This is not true. The Giant on Monroe Avenue is smack in the middle of the neighborhood. It's not the biggest or fanciest grocery store, but it's certainly serviceable (and walkable).

And most of what's considered Del Ray is within a 15-minute walk of the Braddock Road metro. It's true that if you live on the northern end of the neighborhood, it's more bus dependent.

Nope,it's not in the middle of the neighborhood. It's at one end of the neighborhood. There also is discussion on whether it will close once a Giant opens in Potomac Yards.

del ray has one of the worst school systems in the area. It is extremely pathetic considering what people are paying fo that area. You don't want that unless you do private. I would opt for west springfield.

You might want to have a look at the SW/Waterfront. It's a remarkably easier commute to VA than most parts of the city because it's right at 395 - I work in Arlington but go around to other DOD installations with some frequency. I can, say, make it to QUantico in 45 min and Meade in about the same amount of time. But it still has metro, some walkable destinations, a little bit larger sized apartments and townhouses than other parts of town and Appletree Amidon would be walkable. The Navy Yard would have the same advantages because of the 395 exits at So. Capitol St and 8th St plus those pretty new parks on the river.
