Subject: What do you think about letting 17 yr old hang out alone in his room with his girlfriend?
HS BF and I had a pretty cool guideline for PIV sex: we were gonna wait until we could sleep in a bed together for a whole night. I thought the idea of fucking in his parents' house with his door closed was gross, and he didn't want to have us lose our virginity in a car.
Not to say we were prudes: we were more sexual and more adventurous than I have ever been before or since, just without PIV sex. We held out a year and a half until we were both at college and spent a weekend together. I think it's a pretty good guideline.

As long as I had discussed it with my child previously and knew that the girl was on the pill/an equivalent and they were using condoms, it's a don't ask don't tell sort of situation for me. I've raised 4 kids, 3 boys and a girl, and this has always been our status quo. Still not a grandma

SOME kids will have sex. Usually those with absentee parents. Those kids are doing whatever they want. And having abortions. Then you're shocked that they're depressed, or worse.

20:25 here - this would also bother me. When I allow DD to go to her boyfriend's to watch a movie and have gone to the trouble to verify a parent is home, I'm also of the mind that the parent will have a pulse that day...

Teens are going to have sex but you don't have to light the candles and lay out the rose petals for them to do it on.
Another poster who says don't make it easy for them.
FWIW - I had sex at 16; I'm not under the illusion that its not going to happen or that its the end of the world, but for my teenager who is now 16, we don't entertain guests of the opposite sex beyond closed doors. If you want to do that, get an apartment or a dorm room - not while you're living in my house.

OP, how soon would you like to be called, "Grandma?!" Does your son have a part-time job? Make excellent grades? Have a career goal? IMHO, if he has time to take a girl into his bedroom in your home, he needs to show he's prepared to take care of a possibly pregnant girlfriend . . . unless you want that responsibility.
