Young people have not been exposed to that many different professions, so I don't see anything wrong with helping to provide some information and guidance. Obviously, my daughter will make her own decisions but she's 18 and just starting to really think seriously about her future adult life.

Couldn't cut it hon?
This isn't the 1st time I've heard similar sentiments- have friends working civilian for Navy that expressed similar issues. Note, I am ignoring the "hon" PP. I don't feed trolls.

She can try to reach out to her local field office recruiting office. I strongly recommend her finding a major she is interested in and applying for the FBI when she qualifies. That way if she can't get in she has something else to do with her life. [/quote]
THIS, definitely...
I don't actually work for the FBI, but I have an advanced degree in experimental psychology and applied to the FBI thinking it was a serious long shot. I got well into the interview/hiring process before I backed out, and was actually called back and asked to continue afterwards - strongly suggesting that if I held up on my end I'd get in. I've skimmed the majority of the thread and have to say that while it definitely seemed to be a boys club, the women I met were friendly, and the guys were totally open to anyone who could hack it (saw issues with both sexes of people who would likely not have made the cut).
Personally, I chose to opt out because, after discussing it with my then boyfriend (now husband), he wouldn't have followed me to the FBI life (travelling, long hours, secrets, etc), AND I had other opportunities that I was interested in that kept me in the area. I still do wonder what would have happened, but I have a great life now, so things worked out BECAUSE I had the other options. I didn't have to choose between the one career and the one guy/life path. I definitely recommend picking something that will make her happy no matter what, then seeing if/how she can bring that knowledge to offer to the benefit of the FBI, not so that the FBI holds the power of yes/no in her life

Similar comments about the navy?

Don't forget the racism and sexism.
