No, the polite thing to do is when you have a contagious malady, to not expose other people to it. If you were really polite, you would cancel your plane tickets and not travel by air where you will undoubtedly infect other patrons/guests/employees in the airports and on the plane. Face masks decrease but do not eliminate the distribution of contagions. But your holiday is too important to let a little cold interfere with it even if you have to inconvenience many others.

Your in-laws probably showed up even if they were sick so that they could spend the Christmas Eve holiday with their son and granddaughter. They figured that a little cold should not stop them from seeing their child and grandchild over the holidays. Yes, they have something planned for January 2, but that's after Christmas and New Year's. Grow up and stop being so selfish.

I am taking my daughter to Florida tomorrow. First vacation in 5 years as my husband hates to travel. I haven't had a cold in over 2 years. And I'm starting a sore throat. Was looking forward to seeing my elderly aunt on Saturday but now there's a good chance that's off. Took some vitamin C tonight and hoping for the best.

Good news is that I'm driving back, so I won't have to get on a plane congested. Tomorrow, I should not be congested enough for it to be an issue. My daughter is 17, so the blessing is I won't have to run after her and can relax. Glad I booked a nice resort!

Here's your recipe for wellness:

1) Cold Eeze homeopathic cough drops (zinc) every 2 hours - this is the most important.

2) Echinacea. Pill form or use Traditional Medicinals tea.

3) Astragalus vitamins.

4) Emergen-C (packets to mix with water with high doses of Vitamin C). But dont use right before/after the Cold Eeze.

With all this, you will be fine.

Seems to me that your ire should be primarily reserved for your husband. He invited his inconsiderate relatives over to the house on Christmas eve even though you and DD were leaving on a trip soon. He hates to travel so you all haven't been on vacation in five years. You don't even mention that he's going this time so I gather you finally are going without him. You probably are pretty sick of the whole clan by now. Not that I blame you, OP, but you need to put the blame where it truly lies.
