Op here. I love the cards. You don't understand the intent of the post. We LOVE the homemade cards. IF YOU CHOOSE to get a gift, CONSIDER a gift card. I received thirteen Starbucks cards this year. I agree pp too many and seems not very thoughtful. And I happen to know that every single one of the teachers at my school uses gift cards to purchase at least one gift for a family member.

This year my kids are giving holiday boxes of handmade peppermint bark, with a card of their top 10 moments with that teacher and a $10 Starbucks gift card. My daughter is in middle school and she has about 12 teachers (including specials and coaches) but it is worth it to us.

You just made this teacher tear up a bit. Thanks for thinking of us. I love my job and it was my choice to become a teacher. Gifts at holiday time are always just that, a welcome and surprising gift. I can't tell you how many handwritten notes and cards I've kept in the last 15 years. I'm getting schmaltzy, but to be told I have made a positive impact-that is just plain awesome.

I am a parent and the reason I have bought Starbucks cards for teachers and not Target because I want them to spend it mostly on themselves and not on toilet paper or gifts/things for others. Maybe that sounds weird but teachers are giving people and tend to not do nice things for themselves. A REALLY good mocha in the cold weather can change someone's day

Our class gift is sizable gift cards. I contributed. If I also want to do a small token gift with a card, is it OK to get chocolates or ... (suggestions?) or is it truly better to have a small gift card too? If we are going that route anyway.
