SFS is overrated. Great school but not the type that will place 20-30% of class in ivies, MIT, Stanford, Chicago, etc.

SFS parent here. There are hooks. A few recruited athletes and quite a few legacies. The counseling office needs to get it's act together. There has indeed been turnover, and this class may suffer in the transition. But the expectations of parents and the administration at SFS are VERY different and need to be realigned. The head of school has been known to complain that parents want their kids to go to only top 100 colleges. Where does he think he's working? Of course they want and expect that. The school has been passive in college admissions for too long.

New poster. I find it odd that people first claim the school has nothing to do with college admissions, and then now are pivoting to criticism of a particular college admission department. If the school truly has nothing to do with it, then isn't the college admissions department irrelevant?

FWIW, I personally think both the school and the college admission department can be a help to students, but not as much as some parents might hope. Neither extreme (makes no difference vs is determinative) is accurate. Truth is somewhere in the middle.

Wesleyan is ranked #17 by US News. The kids I know there are really happy, and the recent grads I know are in TFA, prestigious fellowships and highly-ranked grad programs.

Agree that college counseling at Sidwell needs a serious overhaul, but I have to disagree with the implication that Harvard is such a challenging school:
