Kiddie camp there starts at 4 yo, so probably not going to be available, but I agree the property and grounds are lovely. However, there isn't anywhere to walk to - you are on the property all the time, they have a couple of hotel shops and that's it. But it is not a bad place to relax.

Walk around the shops in Alexandria with an infant and toddler? Have you actually been to the shops there? First, very few have anything you want to browse with an infant and toddler in tow. Almost none can accommodate a stroller or a walking toddler without direct, constant supervision.

There is one small playground in Old Town that would work for a toddler but I wouldn't waste time and money taking a water taxi to try it out.

I hate National Harbor! If you've never been, you can't know if it's your kind of place.
What about a staycation, a hotel in Georgetown?
I'm not following all the CA suggestions. I would not change time zones.
I'd go with Florida but it can get chilly this time of year.
I agree with PP's that practically speaking this is risky. if you got sick, then what? I'm a single mother, I traveled solo with my only child when DC was younger and there were challenges on every trip.

A flight across country with a toddler and infant--no matter how well behaved-can have lots of downsides. Example: bathroom breaks.

My choices would be:

Local: the Gaylord at National Harbor (see the ICE sculpture show, they also deck out the hotel, and you can have your holidays and not have to work for them, lots of places for the toddler to run around, fun lights and decorations, Alexandria near by, etc.)

Away: Santa Monica - stay at one of the hotels right on the pier, very relaxing to be on the pier this time of year, there's the aquarium, etc. but also if you decide to do something more you have plenty in LA.

Sarasota Florida? The downtown is cute and right off the beach and hotels within walking distance.

Reston Town Center is another option. I agree that it might be better to stay close by. You could also consider Middleburg.

What about going to the Gaylord for a couple of nights? They have the Ice show and a lot going on. You can take a water taxi over to Alexandria and walk around the shops.
Its not as far if you decide you want to come home but if you dont mind the cold I think would be fun.
