Visually. Which is why they get blindsided when their guys fall for someone less "put together" and more dynamic in personality and interests.

I was a hot chick that married a nerd. Guess what? He was cute TO ME. It actually turned me on when he put on his reading glasses. I am attracted to smart, quiet men. My dad was one of them.

If you saw my DH, you would think that he is a nice, staid, quite and boring person. Very polite and incredibly decent human being, so he will not be the one who is cracking jokes in a party. But if you are in a conversation with him, he will enthrall you.

And he is super evil, super hot, super inventive in bed. The stuff he says and he does...it is in no way reflective of his personality out of bed. He is like having my very own secret lover.

Maybe their personalities mesh well and they genuinely love each other?

He was nice and met her at the right time when she was ready to settle down with someone stable. True story.

I would agree generally with this and yes, I do think women have the upper hand in choosing a partner (for a relationship or even just for sex). But the problem is that too many ladies, at least in this town, are still chase after the wrong guys and overlook "the nice guys" who themselves are successful, good looking and well balanced.

Just reading through the countless threads on DCUM about how women have ended up in dysfunctional relationships, why they keep falling into the same trap and so on, makes me wonder (with amazement, and yes even a bit of jealously now that I'm dating again) where are these attractive and well adjusted ('normal') women?

Well, maybe you have a skewed sample of women on here posting. I doubt you are seeing comments from all the available single ladies out there. Keep looking, they are out there for sure.

A former coworker of mine was gorgeous, and an incredibly nice/cool person. She always talked about her amazing boyfriend, and I'll be honest, we were all expecting some hunky studmuffin. When we met him, we were a little surprised because he was just - normal. Normal height, normal build, very average looking - with a great personality. They were a really nice couple, but it was funny to see how we just assume that hot people will mate with hot people.

I'm always more surprised when very attractive men are with less attractive women, because we assume that guys are more shallow in their taste. But I know several couples who fit that description, and they're great.

Women want security. So the less attractive and less successful the man is, the less likely he will cheat. Most women, even hot ones, have had bad experiences with cheating men. So they are scared of good looking, successful men that have so many options.

For this reason, some men prefer less hot women too. And they want SAHMs. In the Middle East, they want them all covered up!

It's all about having control. It's nice to know your partner will never ever leave you.

I'm not a beauty queen but attractive enough to have dated quite a bit and to be selective about my partners / spouse. When I met DH twelve or so years ago, a couple of less-than-sensitive friends asked me what I saw in him - he's a bit on the nerdy side, tall, a bit goofy. Answer is that he is incredibly smart, wonderful sense of humor, kind, compassionate, educated, intellectually curious, romantic, and really great in bed.

Not necessarily the things that people see on the surface, but absolutely the things that matter. Ten years later and I'm so grateful I met him - he site love of my life.
