I would bet large sums that 99% of the women who use the term 'littles' do not hold a professional job.

Oh, god, this makes me throw up, parhicularly nurslings. Whoever uses this should be takwn out and summarily shot for first degree murder of the English language.

The word "nursling" goes back to 1557, says Merriam-Webster.

DH and I use this to refer to our 2 year old twins. It helps "distinguish" them in conversation since we have a 5 and 7 year old too.
"I drop the 'littles' off as soon as I get Mary and Susan on the bus".

"DH, can you grab the littles' jackets from the closet before leaving the house?"

That's what I think of every time. And I'm 41.

Thanks to whoever pointed out nurslings. I have no idea why it bugs me, but it does. A lot. It smacks of "just in case you didn't know the exact manner in which my child (be s/he 6 days or 6 years) is receiving liquid sustenance."

Hate this and all cutesy terms for children. So demeaning and hate when bloggers use the terms "smalls" or "littles", most especially when the children are preteens!

Mormon mommy bloggers do it (so "twee" vomit) and it seems to have caught on in the broader culture.
