Op, their relationship isn't your business. If they favor sil over your children there is nothing you can do about it. You don't get to control other adult's behavior.

Uh...as long as the "editing" doesn't change the content (ideas) of the paper and as long as the paper is in the scholar's own words, not the words of their proofreader. Sometimes there can be a fine line between editing and rewriting..

Ex: I check my son's papers for spelling, punctuation, clarity. If something is awkwardly worded, I'll circle it and tell him to reword it. If his ideas aren't well formulated, I'll let him know that he needs to put more thought (or research) into what he is writing. I do not write his papers for him. I do not agree with everything he writes.

What difference does it make? You still had another person proofread your paper didn't you? As long as the person proofreading the paper is not *rewriting* the paper, what's the big deal if your mother or a peer is the proofreader. I say pick the best proofreader you have access to - which may or may not be your mom.

Why should ou care if they edits their daughter's paper? How does that affect you, your husband or your children?
