there are some questionable "moral values" in the show. Martha uses words like "gosh dang it to heck." This isn't occasionally, either. It's whenever she's upset, which actually happens a lot. Does it bother anyone else that the cartoon uses the word "gosh" so much?


In what way is this immoral? Honestly trying to understand what your point is.

I'm going to go watch Martha Speaks now to see what you all mean....am I the only one whoe doesn't necessarily pay attention as my kids are watching TV?? (obviously I know enough to know the age-appropriateness of the show they're watching)

Love Daniel Tiger, though. And I'm sorry to say, but I think Phineas and Pherb is pretty darn funny and entertaining. Clearly for older kids, though.

What were they doing in the "irritating" commercial?

Anyway, I know something worse than Martha. Sid the Science Kid. Gerald has ADHD, the rest of the kids are just, not right, almost delusional, and I can't stand Sid's grandma's laugh. It sounds like she's a little, well, buzzed, if I'm even allowed to say that on here.

I can't stand Martha Speaks, I actually wrote PBS about Lazy Town when it first came out and was on at 9am- it was much too mature for preschoolers (it's now on in the afternoon). I also can't stand The Cat in the Hat. After MIL introduced Disney Jr, we let the kids watch Mickey Mouse which is okay but Minnie's Bowtique is awful.

The ones that we don't find so bad include:
Word World
Sid the Science Kid
Little Einsteins
Curious George
Arthur (but the books are awful!)
Bearnstein Bears

Martha Speaks does a good job of introducing new vocabulary words and explaining/demonstrating them. I like the characters, and the diversity represented (Latina/Asian/AA/interracial marriage).

I think the show is targeted towards slightly older kids, versus 2 or 3 year olds.

It really is your job as the parent to check out the show and if you find it offensive, then turn it off.

Yes. Why? It depicts sneaking a dog into a country club and not getting punished. It should at LEAST be edited. Think about this: A Barney episode back in the early 1990s was also petitioned and banned. Why? Nine words: "A Stranger is a Friend, You Haven't Met Yet." As a result, many children fell victim to pedophilia and molestation. Citation, please? I fucking hate Barney and don't want to defend the show, but for most children who are molested, the pedophile is not a "stranger," but a "friend" they have already met.
