Why did you buy such an expensive house? We bought a $350,000 house when we made $184,000. We still live in that (paid off) house today, although we now make $450,000. And we have millions invested.

That's laudable for you. I couldn't personally live in what would be a $350,000 house in this area. I'd rather have the money tied up in a $2 million house and sell it when I retire than leave in a $350,000 house.

You do realize that we bought that $350,000 house some time ago, because I said it's paid off, right? Why didn't you ask me what that $350,000 house is worth today? Either you are reading too fast or your analytical skills suck.

Well, this wins the douchiest post award. Congratulations, princess! (Or maybe it's OP's husband?)

I could go back to work but with kids and prospects of working long hours to make only $100k its probably not worth it. Yes we need to cut back. I'm more willing to cut back than DH who thinks he's entitled to live a certain way because 1) he works so many hours and 2) he was brought up by relatively wealthy parents. Our house is the issue but we wont sell. It's our forever home, and in this part of NWDC prices are only going to go up.

So, can you let go of the nanny (just a guess)?

Why would she have a nanny if she doesn't work?

Because lots of other families with $2M upper NW homes and $500K+ HHIs do. As I said, just a guess. OP hasn't denied it either.

If this is true, then why did you post? Nothing will change if you don't sell your home. God, you're stupid.

Why so much CC debt? Does your DH have an addiction to acquiring more stuff?

Your husband's an asswipe. When he drops dead of a heart attack you'll lose the house anyway and be forced to put the kids in public school.l

Let's say your husband pockets $350K/year after taxes. Monthly mortgage on 1.6 million should be about $10/k with taxes and PMI and a rate of 4.8 (just a guess).

So your husband takes home ~29K/month and you pay out ~10k for the mortgage. You are spending more than ~19K a month???? What do you buy?

Only $100K?
Good grief. You do realize that the majority of households in DC live on less than that?

OP, from your three or so posts, it's clear that your poor finances are just a symptom. The real problem is that your husband is a douchebag. But hey - at least he's a douchebag who makes a handsome living! So you got that goin' for you - which is nice.

They're both total assholes. Match made in heaven. Negative cash flow on 500k! Amazing.

It is very sad to wait to get inheritances from your parents and mean while burning your $500K HHI without using your brain.
