Subject: Put my dog to sleep last night
OP here. Thanks all. And my sympathies to the other PPs who recently lost their beloved pets.
I had pretty overwhelming grief for about 10 days. I still functioned but every little thing made me think of my dog. We collected videos and pics of her and talked about her a lot. That helped.
My DH traveled for work for 5 nights around that time and, without my friend by me on the couch int he evenings after my DD went to sleep, it was very lonely.
We have been approved to adopt two new ladies, both of whom have had very tough starts to life (one was 2 hrs from being gassed in NC). We don't have them yet but will soon. This decision has made us all happy. One of the dogs is the breed of my former pup and, while I could never in a million years replace her (and would not even try), I think she'd be happy knowing that I'm saving one of her own. We can't wait to bring them home.

I am sorry for your losses, all PPs. It is a terrible, emotional time. I feel for you- lost 2 pets this year myself, and many in the years previous. It hurts in the heart for a long time. Though you won't forget, you'll come out on the other side, and be able to love another animal who needs you. Hugs.

Sorry OP. I know the feeling.
And like other PPs I also read to myself the Rainbow Bridge poem (our vet sent us a condolescence card with it).
A year later...I still think I hear the dog's collar jingling.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am 5 days out and I am starting to be able to ease back in to normal life. But my heart still hurts, literally. It is crushing. Only time will help you start to feel a little ok. So sorry again....

We lost our dear friend from a heart condition on Christmas Eve two years ago. This helped us get through the holiday but our other dog still misses him just like we do.
