Subject: Driving to disney
I've done it twice with one of my BFFs and her two kids. Our kids are all around the same age (now 9, 8, and two 5 year olds).
We drove in her minivan that had a DVD player. The kids kept each other busy, along with movies, tablets, games and lots of toys/snacks. We did it in two days, stopping 1/2 way overnight...and stopped at Chick-fil-A's along the way for lunch/playtime.
It wasn't too bad when you're switching off driving and have someone to chat with, share costs with.
Looked into autotrain, just too $$.

When we are driving with our kids, we will literally get 30 minutes away from home, and they are already asking how much longer. We have driven twice to see family in TN which is supposedly a 12-14 hour trip which takes us a minimum of 16 hours, so we do it over 2 days. Yuck!
We have done lots of long road trips with 4 young kids. We have a rule that you can't ask how much longer while you are in the car. You can ask when we stop for gas and snacks and bathroom breaks but not in the car. If someone forgets and asks, we break out into a kind of obnoxious song (kind of like they get rick rolled!).

Agree. Would only drive if we left the DC area after 9PM and returned to avoid rush hour traffic hours. Scheduling the driving days on the weekend helps as well.
