I don't generally think children should have jobs but in this case, the baby's job is just to make people happy- with her cries, coos, cuteness etc. Dress her in whatever you think looks cute.

Yes, they do.

OP, my dad died when my daughter was 4 months old. I dressed her in a cotton dress with leggings, both of which were off white with pale pink and gray stripes. She slept through everything. Having her there brought us all strength. Any clothes will be fine, just avoid stuff with writing on it and anything "sassy" or garish. I'm sorry for your loss.
My mom died when my son was 2 weeks old. I put him in a typical baby blue infant outfit. I didn't think much of it other than I wanted it to be an actual outfit and not a sleeper or onsie type outfit.
