Kensington
we live in Capitol View Park, which has a SS zip, but is surrounded by Kensington, so we consider it Kensington.

Large area? I can get to any place in Olney in 5 minutes or less.

I was staying near the intersection of New Hampshire and Brighton Dam Road and it took longer than 5 minutes to get to the Harris Teeter. But I have no complaints. I found Ashton to have a small town feel, and I agree that it is like a suburb of Olney. I loved Dempsey's and buying fruit from the guy across the street. If the commute was shorter, I would live out there in a heart beat.

Cabin John, Glen Echo, Bannockburn and Brookmont - all off MacArthur Blvd and an easy commute to DC.

Brookeville? LOL!

There's historic Brookeville, which is quaint and small. But they use Olney for shopping. Otherwise, Brookeville is Tanterra, an extension of James Creek, and Sunshine/Brighton Dam area. It hardly has that small town feel. LOL!

Ashton is smaller but again, it's the same thing. I consider Ashton and Brookeville almost "suburbs" of Olney, as that's often where people to shop and eat.

Olney. We're in Olney and we love it. There is a farmers market on Sundays and you always run into people that you know. One gym, the stores close by, and we know all of our neighbors. There is also "Olney Days" with a whole weekend of activities - a parade, small festival at the Olney Manor Park, and fireworks.

Some of the most town-like towns in the area are not in Montgomery, and have crappy schools, unfortunately. Laurel is a great "town," MARC runs through it, nice main st, community garden, parades, diverse economically and racially, affordable nice houses. But most people end up sending their kids to private school.

I'm a city girl but once I found this place, I am here to stay! Very good commute to DC if needed. Few if any good places to eat in town but that is really the major problem with Kensington so we can't complain.

Kensington, again! I live in the Homewood area.

If you're already in Bethesda, then Glen Echo is a great option and your kids may not even have to change schools.
