We are watching Friday Night Lights together now. I think it is terrific, but it does have a lot sex in it. I don't know that I would have felt comfortable letting DS watch it 2 years ago.
If your son likes sports, I highly recommend the Ken Burns Baseball documentary. Also, the ESPN 30-for-30 series is *excellent.* Even if he doesn't especially like sports, some of these are well worth watching together because they are so thought provoking. We particularly liked "Unguarded," the story of a high school phenom who made it to the NBA but battled heroin addiction, "You Don't Know Bo," a profile of Bo Jackson, and "Catching Hell," about scapegoats in sports.
Modern Family, Glee, the Amazing Race, the Daily Show, Last Resort, and The Office have been other big hits here. I also have heard good things about the new show The Fosters.
Some others we haven't watched but are on my list: Seinfeld, Northern Exposure, Taxi, Felicity.
OP here. He watches 30-for-30 and we've seen "You don't know Bo". Great choices!
