This is just me, but I would make sure he's seen the old Star Trek and maybe Next Generation. This is cultural stuff folks!

We particularly liked "Unguarded," the story of a high school phenom who made it to the NBA but battled heroin addiction, "You Don't Know Bo," a profile of Bo Jackson, and "Catching Hell," about scapegoats in sports.
Modern Family, Glee, the Amazing Race, the Daily Show, Last Resort, and The Office have been other big hits here. I also have heard good things about the new show The Fosters.
Some others we haven't watched but are on my list: Seinfeld, Northern Exposure, Taxi, Felicity.
OP here. He watches 30-for-30 and we've seen "You don't know Bo". Great choices!

I love Psych, but you have to have a 13 year old that can follow the pop culture references. They do get stale a few seasons late (One episode the cop pulled a gun on a dog and sean said - "don't get all Micheal Vick on me" - it's amazing how a few years on a teen can miss total news events. I had to explain it). It is fine show
I also love Outnumbered from BBC. Usually I save it for just me and my husband (wine and unwind time), but our middle schooler came into the room late once while we were watching it and started laughing hysterically.

My 13 year old likes watching old episodes of The Fresh Prince and The Cosby Show. He also watched Everybody Hates Chris and loved that show.
