FAR from rich buddy. I grew up and played there. Blue collar kids and maybe that's why so many of these kids are so good. Public school kids who are not rich all over New York play lacrosse and beat the crap out of private schools.
Exactly. The negative posters on this thread need to get out a little bit more. The sport is exploding in popularity because it is being made availabe to all economic strata, both in inner cities and country high schools. And the notion that only rich white kids play is ridiculous, go or watch a game on TV and you'll see. Lacrosse teams (youth rec, high school, and club) emphasize character, integrity, and high academic achievment. And that's not lip service, the coaches will yank a player for failure to demonstrate good behavior on or off the field. The unfortunate actions of a few in recent years has tainted the overall perception of lacrosse players, but the players and coaches today are working hard to dispell the myth.
This may be true in Upstate NY but not in the MD/VA/DC area. I've seen plenty of examples of poor character and behavior. Lacrosse players are not known for being the top academics in the class. Never once have I seen HS coaches yank kids for poor behavior off the field. It is usually admin that has to do it. Yes there are a few examples of lacroose kids who are good students but in many cases it is the lacrosse part that gets these kids into princeton, harvard, cornell, duke etc. If they did not get recruited, they never would get in to these schools.

This. Rich people see it as their kid's ticket because there is no competition from anyone but privileged white kids who, let's face it, aren't good athletes in general. In every other sport there is competition from kids from all over the country and various socio-economic backgrounds, not so for lacrosse. It lets rich white kids excel at a sport when they otherwise wouldn't. Hopefully it will spread to poorer schools and areas so those folks can take advantage of the scholarship money and easier admission standards.

Rich, white, affluent and upwardly mobile with sights on getting into an equally elitist college to play lacrosse and cohort with fellow privileged kids. That is my perception. I don't think it applies to all but many.
I don't think where you are from has much relevance.
yup this is my perception. Growing up the only kids I knew who played lacrosse went to expensive private schools.

They have the highest graduation rate of any other cohort in college.
