Neither Wilson or Banneker impress me and I'm African American. It's not about race for me, but about the program/curriculum quality that a school offers.

Back to the subject at hand DC has some decent and above schools i.e Banneker, SWW and some may say Wilson if you don't like em go Private or move to the burbs case closed your child will get a good education and it will have decent diversity.

OMG why do you keep brining up TJ????? TJ is one of the best high school's in the nation that not everyone has access to. The point was that there is a great school in DC for average or slightly above average students in DC to take advantage of.

^^EXACLTY, Asians are the highest performing students and SAT takers, whites next. So when you comparing TJ SAT scores to Banneker's you truly are (as PP says) comparing apples to watermelons. I would be willing to bet that the few Asian and white kids that are at Banneker do very well on the SATs.

Actually I do live in DC. The racial make-up of TJ is irrelevant IMO since there are uniform standards of admissions. I also bet you that there are more Asian students than white students at TJ and my feathers are not ruffled in the least.

Banneker' student body (about 400) is about 1/5 of TJ's (about 2000). Still, what's to stop DC from opening a school with about 400 kids with the same entrance standards as TJ?

You do realize that FCPS's populatiof of enrolled students in k-12 is like 1/5 of DC's total poplation? Or that average SAT population of a regular FCPS high schooler 1659? Apples and oranges here. Or rather DC is a grape and fairfax is a watermelon.

That's nice, but I'm talking about true talented DC athletes. They are not going to Wilson vs Banneker. They are going private to Good Counsel, DeMatha, Bullis, Georgetown Prep, Montrose Christian (Kevin Durant) etc. Heck Friendship Charter probably has more college athletes than Wilson. A poster claimed they won't consider Banneker due to lack of sports I was just pointing out ways to make it work. Be in a safe academic school and have athletics. Only true problem that remains is some white parents don't want their kid to be the only one. Banneker has seen an increase in Asian and Hispanic students lately, maybe that will attract more whites.

Second, it is ridiculous the DC, the capital of the US does not have a test in public school in the same league as TJ. That is all I am saying. P
