My son loved the Potomac School camp. When we went on parents visiting day we could see why. Everything was well organized, the counselors were engaged and the class sizes were small. I loved that there was a bus, as well.
He also did one week of Lola's Laboratory camp.
He hated it. He cried every morning before camp. He complained that it was too wild and crazy and that the counselors yelled a lot.
I take everything with a grain of salt and played it down with him until I saw for myself what it was really like on the last day of camp.
The camp had a fantasy theme and on the last day there was a play about a wedding. My husband and I took time off from work to watch the counselors act. Not one child had a part. All they did was blow bugles. Supposedly they helped to write the play. Who knows. It was ridiculous.
At the end of the play music came on and the children went wild dancing around and not one of the counselors or Lola (who was there videotaping) could gain control. It was chaos.
After the play, there was a book signing where Lola was signing some book that she wrote. We took our son and left. The whole thing felt so narcissistic. We will not be returning.
Lesson learned.
