There are unfortunately many people who think that the phrase "please don't spread my news" means "tell everyone ASAP" It is a hurtful lesson to learn. I also had the get pregnant, the news spread, then had a miscarriage. Ouch. People who did not get the news took me out to celebrate. I thought they knew...

I usually spell it out when I don't want something on Facebook. Sometimes, I wish people would think before posting. My father died recently and the Facebook postings went up faster than I could call people to tell them. I was up almost all night and trying to keep it together enough to make a few more calls. Those posts were not helpful.

I can't imagine being that far along and NOT telling my office. I can understand why she was icy.

Why are you FB friends with your boss?

After that we told everyone it would be email only, sorry.

Boss is absolutely 100% crazy, and she found out because she was adamant about becoming my FB friend. I never, ever use FB, so my profile is pretty much blank. She is the worst.

I opted to de-tag us (after someone explained to me how to do it, haha), and say nothing. Really wondering why my SIL posted that weird shout-out since her Facebook profile is pretty blank too. Wondering if it was maybe a bit out of spite? She's having a rough year. I think I will cut her some slack. Also maybe I won't be telling her anything I don't want broadcasted anymore.

Honestly, you or DH need to do a little "What the hell, Sis?" before the same thing happens when the baby is born--and to call her back to reality a little from whatever bad place she is in.

Alternately, you could let her find out that the baby was born from Facebook, but that's a little too spiteful for my taste.

This.
I can't imagine my coworkers seeing my personal updates. I have two FB groups, for close friends, and for the rest.

It wasn't her news to share, totally correct. But I wouldn't freak out about it. Let it go and enjoy the new baby!

You still haven't answered the question we keep asking: Did you ask her to keep it secret? If you didn't, why would you assume she did this "out of spite?"

Tweak your FB settings so that any post you are tagged in must be approved by you before it shows up on your feed. Also, make lists. One for coworkers you aren't close with, boss and business contacts. Let them see nothing. Then ice your SIL for a few months.

If you rarely use/enjoy Facebook you might want to consider getting rid of your profile altogether. It doesn't seem to be doing you much good, kwim? Oh, and definitely monitor what and how much you tell your sis.

Agreed! My first thought was doy on SIL, but the boss showed bad form. Watch yourself with this boss and your pregnancy OP. Her initial off putting response may foreshadow some things.
