You all should just feel lucky that your kids will eat fruit. I'd spend $100 a week on fruit if I could get my son to eat some of it.

I just want my living breathing garbage disposals to at least wait u tip the darned peaches are even skittle bit ripe before they finish them! And forget about fresh strawberries. I have to hide them! This works well and yesterday I brought some home from the store and ate a few myself for once!

Same. The workers who spray strawberries in the fields are cloaked head to toe in protective suits. There's no way I'm eating that.

Sort of. It's because federal subsidies for crops such as corn and soy keep those prices artificially low. There are no subsidies to speak of for produce. The billions in agricultural support is even more mindblowing when you think people about the funding being spent on the war on obesity and the health problems it creates.

No coupons for produce but it does go on sale regularly - and Giant sometimes has produce coupons in the flyer in the Wednesdsy paper.

Safeway has produce coupons - I just used 5 different "Just 4 U" coupons that I loaded onto my card. I had coupons for peaches, nectarines, bananas, fresh spinach, carrots, and 1 for 5x gas rewards on all produce purchases

Costco for us too. The variety and quality is great. I usually hate shopping in bulk for perishables, but fruit is the one thing that never goes to waste in our house.

Something else I buy a lot of is frozen mango chunks from Trader Joe's. It is probably the only fruit that barely changes texture once it's defrosted, so I feel like it is a great deal, and a decent substitute for fresh mango. I do a lot of smoothies with them too.

I hate to say it, but I stopped shopping at the Farmers Markets in Fairfax Co. They are just outrageously expensive. I have family members who are farmers and they are shocked at the prices vegetables sell for around here.

I've started buying most of my fresh produce at Costco (love those cheap bananas!) and Wegman's, with occasional trips to Asian grocery stores. I also buy a lot of frozen fruit and vegetables. Frozen produce is picked at it's peak and retains vitamins, and is so convenient.

We don't do unlimited fruit. It is too expensive. If I was rich I would buy more fruit. The kids get a banana in the morning, fruit in their lunch and a little fruit snack after school. My kids love fruit so I have to limit it. They still get plenty and variety.

We eat tons of produce, but we shop in season. The produce at TJ's never looks good and the prices are not that great. Giant is just fine for produce and only go Organic on the dirty dozen.

Costco fruit and veggies are a great deal and great quality if you can deal with the slammed store.

Harris Teeter bag of gala apples are excellent 3/4ths of the year and only $5.This time of the year they are at their worst though. Melons are great this time of the year.

+1. And bananas are dirt cheap. We eat a lot of bananas. Not as healthy as having a variety, but what can you do...

Eat the bananas! Way better than chips or cookies any day of the week.
