Thats simply not true. Many of these privates have 20 kids in a class. While they have break out groups, that also do things as a class. Its just not the same thing as having a classroom with 10 or 12 kids (which my DS has had at McLean).

You also should check out Bridges public charter school.

+1. Seriously. Is there a private school K that does NOT have:

"strong academics, small group learning environment (not just teacher/student ratio, but small group settings), and a socially nurturing environment."

Actually, yes - some schools have large classes with multiple teachers, hence low ratios but not small group learning environment. For some kids, 2 teachers in a room with 20 kids is substantially different than 1 teacher and 10 kids, if your kid is one who gets distracted or intimidated in crowds.

And, no, not all schools with tuition are academically rigorous (one of OPs criteria). My son attends one, I should know. And that is why I clicked on this thread, because he needs other options in NWDC or environs.

OP is seeking a school with strong academics. Not a one-year gig for K. Some schools just don't.
