I do the EXACT same thing, same products even. Learned this from going to Sephora. This foundation is a pump and I dab little dots of it all over the brush, and then apply to one side of my face. Dab more dots onto the brush and apply to face.

Damn you, OP! I just spent $200 at Sephora.

Shiseido PP here. I put the foundation on the back of my hand, then lightly dab the brush in it. The brush bristles are stiff but soft, and it has a flat angled shape that works really well. I just kind of stipple it on all over and it looks great, like airbrushing.

OP, I never, ever wore foundation but finally in my 30s felt like I needed the coverage. For a foundation newbie-- especially if you want a very natural look-- try Prescriptives Virtual Skin. It's a medium coverage foundation, but Prescriptives also makes an even lighter, more sheer foundation which is lovely on your skin if you don't need the coverage. You can only order online, as they closed all their dept store counters. (They were going to shut down the whole line, but popular demand was so high that they continued manufacturing their products and continue as an online store.) They have very helpful phone and online service help and you can return anything for any reason, any time. Highly recommend. BTW, my skin is very sensitive/allergic and breaks out easily, and this stuff is great. Great for young skin and older skin. (Now I have wrinkles to go along with my acne!)

Shiseido foundation brush is the best, IMO. You can get it at Sephora.

A brush is a must for liquid foundation. Ask at Ulta, they can help you find one, or CVS sells one.

This is exactly what I do too, except I don't put on any powder over my liquid foundation. At the ripe old age of 41 I find that powder isn't necessary anymore. I use Murad skin perfecting primer, then urban decay naked liquid foundation (which I apply with the special urban decay brush, ask at ulta and they'll show it to you, it's amazing). Then i use a little YSL touche eclat concealer under my eyes and around my nose to hide redness. I brush on a little nars laguna bronzer everywhere, and instead of nars orgasm I use tarte cheek stain in blissful. When (if!) it runs out I'm buying nars orgasm. A little eyebrow pencil (and I highly second the PP who said threading and filling in brows does wonders) and a little benefit "they're real" mascara and i'm good to go. The whole thing takes 5 minutes at the most.

No eye makeup at all?

Re-read my post, you'll see I listed mascara. But other than that, no, during the day for work I don't wear any other eye makeup. On the rare occassion that I have a date night, or if I'm going to a meeting and speaking in front of a crowd I'll put on a little eyeliner. I saw a trick in some magazine that said to line the inside upper eyelid, rather than the outside of your eyelid where your lash meets your eyelid. It's awesome. It totally makes your eyes look bigger and your lashes stand out even more, but it doesn't look made up.
