I think Super Red on "Super Why" just got a puppy who walks on all-fours. I'm wondering what Alpha-pig thinks about this. I haven't seen "Miffy and Friends" lately, not sure if it's still on. But it really irritated how a rabbit who talks, wears dresses and goes to school has a pet dog who walks on all-fours and doesn't even speak.

I agree with you, pp. Either animals be animals, or animals walk upright and act human.

Can't stand Noodle and Doodle. I can't understand why my kids like watching it. In fact, I don't really like any of the people on Sprout and the Chica show is like nails on a chalkboard to me - it is all so uncreative and creepy. Now, I think Nina from the good night show has been looking kind of chunky lately. I think she is already a mom and think she looks pregnant.

I was listening to something lately-wait wait font tell me podcast I think?-that discussed this, and the answer is that animals who wear clothes can talk and have pets, and animals that don't, can't. So goofy wears clothes, so he can talk and Pluto doesn't so he's Mickey's pet.

The alphabet soup going to Martha's brain really bugs my husband too.

What? Nina does not look anorexic at all, I don't know what you're talking about. And in fact I think she does a good job of not over emoting or annoying the crap out of me like most adults in children's entertainment.

As the parent of a one-year-old I have nothing to add to this thread yet. But just wanted to say that I'm loving it and it's almost making me look forward to the kids shows stage that I know is coming!

Another one with this contradiction is Gaspard & Lisa. G&L are dogs behaving like people in Paris. If all the characters were dogs (or at least other animals), that would make sense -- but lots of other characters (including their classmates at school) are human. And then some of the humans around them have pet dogs, who are leashed and don't speak. WTF??

I hate to say this, but when my oldest was little I was so excited to watch Charlie Brown specials with her.

We watched the Easter one first, and it took us a few days to realize she was now calling everyone stupid because that's what Peppermint Patty called Marcy.

ANd the Halloween one is full of bullying of Charlie Brown. Seriously mean, mean stuff. Adults give him rocks in his trick or treat bag?

And so on - if these shows were made today there'd be a huge outcry. I still watch them with my kids, but boy they are harsh.

How about when the animal characters go to the zoo? Like when Curious George goes to the zoo and sees other monkeys in a cage. How does that make sense?
