Subject: When do I cave to Facebook?
My brother let my niece sign up just before 13. Not because she wanted to but because teachers at her magnet school used it regularly to communicate. The summer before she started that year there were a lot of assignments posted to it. And the students communicated with each other about assignments using it. She's hardly ever on it except for school related things. She's almost 14 now and is active on Instagram and Vine.

I not naive enough to think that my kids have not done a a workaround but here are a few that we implemented across the board (only with HS ages and below):
1. Password is shared
2. Must "friend" me, DH or cool, hip but VERY protective Aunt.
3. Any app on any device (plus texts) is subject to inspection on demand and without notice.
4. If we find out that you have a "dummy" account for the parents, accounts must be closed and all electronic devices will be confiscated until further notice but not less than 90 days.
5. Posting of age inappropriate material - see item 4.
Educator here. You're one heck of a parent, and I applaud you! Bet you're raising some wonderful kids!

Subject: When do I cave to Facebook?
I let my DDget a FB account toward the end of 8th grade. She is now 16 and never goes on FB.. Only Instagram, snapchat, tumblr etc.. She said FB is out for teens so OP let your DCget a FB account, they will quickly be moving on to something else
