speed skating! there are classes in Anacostia and Annandale. He'd need to start with some basic ice skating classes first.

other ideas: tumbling, dance, horseback riding, archery.

But I think trying lots of different sports is a great idea, as is showing him lots of different sports (maybe look at clips from the olympics) to see what looks like fun.

6'l" will be fine -- I know people who were recruited for lightweight men's even shorter than that.
