Yes, but in some cases it does start to show up earlier.
I was born jaundiced and required treatment, my first daughter had jaundice and required in-patient treatment and my second daughter had jaundice that did not require treatment....all cases showed up within 36 hours. We are at risk for both ABO and Rh incompatibility so our chances of another jaundice child is much higher than average. After spending nights in a private maternity room vs night in a shared pediatrics room, I would much rather just stay put if given the chance.
But yes, you should definately keep getting checked by your ped since many cases take longer than 2 days.
BUT, this is all a personal decision. If I had no risk factors, I would want to be out of there and back in my own bed as fast as possible.
