Bobo is derived from the Puerto Rican folkhero 'Juan Bobo' who is often portrayed as a naive 'foolish' person or someone who simply does exactly what he is told. He is also sometimes referenced as a trickster. I grew up reading many of his stories in PR. Al'so, bobo does not mean 'mute' but more along the lines of 'simple' or 'foolish'. it does not mean 'dumb' in any context whether 'mute' or not.

Please learn about someone's culture properly BEFORE trying to slander them on the internet.

My father called my butt a bobo.

In French, that’s the word for a small hurt (you hurt yourself, let me kiss the bobo and make it better).

DH and I still use it occasionally tongue-in-cheek.

Yes, this is the context I know bobo in as well.

So, slang words from your culture (butt, hiney) are acceptable, but caregivers can't use the words from their culture? Lovely.

I mean, in the US, childcare providers should speak English to children learning how to talk, unless some sort of bilingual education program has been agreed, yes.
