I find it sad that most of the posters who love their fed jobs love them because they're easy and flexible.

Why do you find it sad? My kid is my number one priority, not my job. Handling FOIA matter is not what I dreamed of doing, but it isn't awful and it is a necessary government function that I strive my best to do efficiently and well.

. Who, as a parent, would want a job that isn't flexible? What a ridiculous comment. My job is challenging, but flexible. Helps that I can go in a bit later when I need to get DD to scool or to the doctor. I just make up the time.

I agree with you, PP.

Does it mean that they just gave up? Or they never cared in the first place?

It means we want to see our kids. I spent years at the top of my game, and my kids will be out of the house soon.

Then I will collect a retirement and be at the top of my game again, bringing home 2 incomes.

It really more strategic than giving up.

I'm an attorney. I don't like my actual job. At all. I'm bored to tears. But I like the flexibility it affords so it's compromise.

I'm an attorney at DOJ, handling civil appeals. Love my job. I always wanted to work for the government growing up, and I am still committed to public service and the agency's mission nearly 15 years later. There is some flexibility, which I very much appreciate as the mom of an elementary-aged kid, but that's not what keeps me there. I like the people, the pay is good, and the work is interesting.

It would be hard for me to say I loved any job that kept me away from my family too much or was so stressful that it dominated my thoughts day in and day out.

I am a new poster who loves my government job because it is flexible. The flexibility is not the best part of my job, but my husband works in a very non-flexible job and if my job were not flexible I would have had to leave the work force years ago because of child care issues.

That said, I also really love my job. Much more than I loved being an associate in big law

This. I know of zero people working in private sector jobs that do so because they believe in their company's mission. They're there for the money. Is that any different from being in a job in part because it's flexible?
