Don't worry in two years jack and Janie will have an entire line of "vintage" clothing, just like Jcrew copied the entire hipster vibe that many young 20 something's were wearing a few years ago. What was consider trashy by "high society" a few years ago is now in style. I remember when I was a child my mom would buy us Lacoste polos for $5 at Filene's Basement and now they cost $100.

Mohawks are for trashy poor people? I clearly remember that the style was brought back by Angelina Jolie a few years ago when her son Max had it. I do believe she is a millionaire??

The fact remains that I personally would rather have a child that is confident enough to express him or herself in any non-violent and law abiding way than to have a child that is constantly trying to keep up with their friends. Individualism is a sign of creativity which is a trait many future employers seek. I want my kids to be who THEY are not what others think they should be.

I am sorry OP can't accept that there are many intelligent successful people who don't give a damn what others think. If my son wants a Mohawk and fake tattoos all over his arms at age 4, he's going to get a high five and a "rock on". Hell, if he wants to wear a damn tutu, I'll ask what color?

A well adjusted, confident and loving child is all I want. Everyone else can go pound sand hahahaha

For those of you who say kids that age don't care about hair, you are wrong. SOME kids do have opinions on hair. Also, the 4yo with a mohawk might have an older brother with one, and I don't know about you, but my 2 yo wants to be exactly like her big sis.

On the contrary. Poor people can't afford a stylist. Don't be so insulting to the poors.

My DS 4 year old boy has had a faux hawk twice because he asked for it. It looked cute and he was happy. Bottom line. In fact, it is quite popular to have various forms of a faux hawk right now in popular culture and that is where he got it from. He also saw a boy at a capoeira class who has one and he admired the older boy. My DS is awesome and what you think about his hair is the least of my worries.

Even very young kids can form ideas about what hairstyles they want. If mine asked for a Mohawk, I'd let him do it, because I believe it is good for kids to learn to make their own decisions in safe ways, with parental support. A Mohawk on a teen might look a bit trashy, but on a four year old, it just looks like a kid being allowed to be a kid.

+1. Come on. It's beyond cavil that Mohawk or any fashion like hair-styles on a little boy exhibits white trash sensibility. Not subject to debate really.

Next thing you know bass boats and four wheel ATVs will start popping up on ccmd front lawns. Budweiser bottles next to the recycling can.
