I agree! (Though I haven't seen the Swedish version). I thought the book had too many dull subplots. The movie cut those and just stuck to the interesting storyline.
And I completely disagree (respectfully) with the posters above who said Gone With the Wind, True Blood, Emma, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Gatsby (all versions) were better than the books.
Anonymous wrote:To Kill a Mockingbird- I'd say the film and book are even.

Can't believe you mentioned White Oleander; just finished watching it. The movie is good, excellent acting, but leaves out whole and important parts of the book. Kinda torn about this one.Anonymous wrote:White Oleander.
As for 12:16 - usually true, but at least with WO, the director made some better choices than I would ever have imagined, and even in some cases than the author chose, yet the movie remained totally true to the book.

Not only was The Godfather poorly written but it is one of the most misogynistic tomes I've ever slogged through. Puzo describes women like they are different creatures from outer space. The movie uplifted the book. That's saying a lot.Anonymous wrote:Gone with the Wind
The Godfather
